Goodbye to a legend: Prince passes away at 57.
This is something I hoped I’d not ever have to write. I’m still collecting my thoughts a day later. Having your heroes leave this dimension is not easy. I will probably write something more profound here soon, but for now I will simply add what I posted to Facebook yesterday, as I don’t know what […]

PRINCE – HITnRUN PHASE TWO: THE RWOM REVIEW…
Phase Two, much to the relief of many, is a return to more of a classic funk-soul-pop-r&b Prince sound. Most importantly in my opinion, this includes the return of Prince’s stellar horn section. The track selection for this one has been culled from several different recordings from the last few years. I am beyond impressed with this album. While yes, it plays like a collection, especially when I have singles of about half of the album, it also works beautifully as an album. These songs all fit nicely next to each other. While parts of Phase One had to grow on me, Phase Two feels like home.

PRINCE – HITnRUN PHASE ONE: THE RWOM REVIEW…
Less than a year after Prince’s successful double dose of Art Official Age and PLECTRUMELECTRUM, he announced that he had a new album ready. However, as typical of Prince, this wasn’t without some controversy. This summer Prince yanked all of his music, with the exception of a few stray compilation tracks, off of Spotify, which […]

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION’S *AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY* TURNS 30!…
On this day in 1985, Prince and the Revolution’s followup to the massively successful Purple Rain album was released with little fanfare. Prince had asked that Warner Brothers release Around The World In A Day with almost no announcement, no videos, and no singles. I can only imagine the shouting matches that must have taken […]

CONCERT REVIEW: PRINCE & 3RDEYEGIRL – THE PALACE, LOUISVILLE, KY 3/14/15 (8PM)
Saturday night, Almost exactly 30 years since the day my mom surprised me coming home from school one day with my first LP, Purple Rain, I finally got to see the man who more than anyone else is responsible for beginning my music obsession. Prince set the house on fire last night at the Louisville […]

TOP 25 ALBUMS OF 2014 – #1: PRINCE – ART OFFICIAL AGE…
Finally… the top of the list! This year it wasn’t easy. In fact there were easily over 50 albums this year that I really liked and had to choose from. There were even a couple that I hadn’t even heard until I had the list completed. But there was one album that topped my favorites, […]

TOP 25 ALBUMS OF 2014 – #11: PRINCE & 3RDEYEGIRL – PLECTRUMELECTRUM…
This year was a great one for Prince fans. After waiting and being told for about a year that a new album was coming, Prince stepped up and delivered two instead. One of these was PLECTRUMELECTRUM with his new all-female band 3RDEYEGIRL. So why did I rate this one lower than the other, Art Official […]

REVIEW: PRINCE & 3RDEYEGIRL – PLECTRUMELECTRUM…
This week Prince puts an end to the wait for a new album with not one, but two album releases for the masses. Art Official Age is the album that focuses on Prince alone and leans heavily towards funk, R&B, dance and electronic experimentation. PLECTRUMELECTRUM is almost its opposite. The album is credited to Prince […]

REVIEW: PRINCE – ART OFFICIAL AGE…
Prince’s last proper album with a wide release was 2009’s Lotusflow3r/MPLSound, which as some of you may recall was a Target-only release in America, sold in a 3-part package with an album by his latest muse at the time, Bria Valente. Five full years ago. To a fan that grew up with an artist that […]

PRINCE TAKES OVER THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW!
Now I have to be completely honest. I was excited to see Arsenio Hall come back to late night TV. The summer of 1991 when I first started watching and at the time I was heavily entrenched in that time frame’s R&B music and especially hip-hop, which has some of its finest moments and artists […]
